Does my poor vocabulary restrict what I can think
about? Does language just help with the
organisation of ideas, or is it essential to the
birth (imagining, conceiving)and then the
understanding of the idea?
http://peccavi.blogspot.com knows more words
than me. does that mean he can think things i
cant grasp?
If language is so important, how can people who
think in different languages ever truely
communicate? Does the structure of the Chinese
language automatically make you think in a
certain way? Are all our thoughts trapped
within the constraints of language?
- no. What about music, painting, dance?
"music really is the universal language"- arrgGHH
ive heard that too many times. headache.
anyway, the arts are about feelings, not ideas -
right? Maybe a feeling is a thought you cant
express in words. (lit + poetry=arts? yeah but
they're all about conveying feeling... but they
express them in words...oh shut up!)

..from the Mars Volta on MTV2 choose their top 10
influences. Or the ones that have music videos
anyway. I forgot the order but here they are:
Talking Heads-same as it ever was.might buy album
Captain Beefheart - random shouting
Frank Zappa - guitar hero/pirate/composer?
Dead Kennedys - song about Cambodia. edgy nutter
Roots Manuva - uk rap, strange beat
Outkast - lend me some sugar, i am your neighbour
Kraftwork - '3 funky German white dudes'
Aphex Twin - nice and disjointed
PublicEnemy-'no them no Rage Against the Machine'
The Fall - great band, 'grumpy lead singer'
All quite obvious I think, apart from Roots
Manuva. The guys said they often listen to him
before they go on stage. The video showed Roots
going back to his old school and winning all the
events on sports day, running against tiny kids.
nice one.
